Sport

As physical education and the qualities acquired on the sports field are important aspects of a fully integrated education, all students are strongly encouraged to participate in sport.

The aim of the Physical education programme is to contribute to the development of the student through a comprehensive programme of selected physical activities.

Hockey at Mount Sackville

The physical activities we offer are as follows:

  • Aerobics
  • Tennis
  • Swimming
  • Rounders
  • Volleyball
  • Cricket
  • Self Defence

Pupils who are involved in Horse Riding outside school are encouraged to form teams and compete in competitions representing the school.

Mount Sackville has excellent facilities for sport.  The sports hall is marked for basketball, four badminton courts and an indoor tennis court.  The outdoor facilities include an all weather hockey pitch, six tennis courts, a grass area which includes an athletic track, soccer pitch and rounders area.

Physical Education

Our students are strongly encouraged to participate in sports.  It is compulsory that they participate in P.E. classes every week (80-90 minutes)

Students have the opportunity to join in numerous activities outside of regular class time, during lunch and evening practice sessions.  These are optional, but we do wish that girls stay involved in team games as long as possible.  This helps to develop friendships and also a responsibility towards ‘the team effort’.

Sports day is held early in May and parents are welcome to attend and support their daughters.

Students are required to have a full clean uniform at all times.

Equipment: All pupils must have:

Hockey stick – Hockey sticks, gum shields, shin guards are all compulsory and may be purchased in school during the 1st week of term.

Badminton racquet (available any sports shop)

Tennis racquet and 2 tennis balls (available any sports shop)

These items must be marked and will be checked on the students’ first P.E. class in September.

Predominately white runners only – No boot runners / “Retro-casual” is not acceptable

Identify all gear and equipment with the student’s name.

Students should secure their gear and equipment at all times in their own lockers, which should be kept locked.

Parent support for matches is always welcome. If you start early in the season it soon becomes the norm and at times good support may be the difference between the team winning or losing. It also gives parents the opportunity to organise lifts on a rota basis and become involved in their daughter’s activities.

While students may be sick from time to time and may be excused from class on presentation of a sick note/certificate we do ask parents to encourage their daughter to participate as fully as possible in physical education.
