Mount Sackville Secondary School

1st Year Induction

28-August-26

Our new First Year students arrived on the morning of Tuesday 25th August. It was a beautifully sunny day and this reflected the group's obvious enthusiasm to be here. The students assembled in the gym where they were welcomed by the Principal, Deputy Principal, their Dean of Year and tutors. Subsequently, they were divided into their five class groups, each named after a famous Irish female writer -

Boland (Eavan)

Dillion (Eilís)

Edgeworth (Maria)

Maude (Caitlín)

O'Brien (Edna)

Each group had a good first morning, learning about the school environment from their Dean, Tutors and guided tours expertly given by the 6th Year prefects!

Wednesday saw the First Years return for ICT and friendship workshops. While on Thursday, their induction concluded with the celebration of mass for the opening of the school year, followed by a morning of sport and choir.

Friendship Workshop – Wednesday 26th August

On Wednesday, our First Year students took part in a fun and engaging Friendship Workshop as part of their induction programme. The session included a variety of icebreakers, team-building activities and games designed to help the girls get to know one another, build new connections and feel comfortable within their new year group. There were plenty of laughs throughout the morning, with the girls throwing themselves into every activity. It was a fantastic opportunity to break the ice, build friendships and help the year group begin to gel as they start their journey together in Mount Sackville.

Extracurricular Taster Day – Thursday 27th August

On Thursday, our First Years had the opportunity to experience a flavour of the wide range of extra curricular activities available in Mount Sackville. The girls took part in taster sessions in hockey, Gaelic football and choir, giving them the chance to try something new and get a sense of the opportunities that await them beyond the classroom. Despite the rain, spirits certainly weren't dampened! The girls participated brilliantly in both hockey and Gaelic football outdoors before enjoying their choir session. It was a fun-filled morning and a great introduction to extracurricular life in Mount Sackville, which plays such an important part in the overall school experience.

A fantastic two days of making friends, trying new activities and embracing all that school life has to offer!

After all of that activity the First Years earned a day off on Friday to get them ready for their first full day of class this coming Monday.

The 1st Year Tutors and Dean are delighted that the First Years have arrived and look forward to working with them.
